The best Fresh Prince – stylee big hair do’s and MCHammer style dancing ever. How does their hair stand up so tall? Will we ever dance like that again? The universe holds many mysteries, but The Power is certainly a brilliant track and quintessential 90′s hit. German duo Snap! had their first big hit with [...]
A 1992 hit with all the prerequisite uniform: perm, big earrings and a lot of PVC. I love the setting for this video – how exactly do you book a missile launch platform? The German duo Snap! were responsible for this club hit and UK number 1 as well as The Power which was another [...]
Didn’t this song drive you up the wall? The upside that everyone could sing it “ab a dee ab a dii” etc… The guy’s accent was Italian and his europop trio took 1999 by storm. Here are the lyrics so you can sing along to this bizarre little number Lyrics to Blue by Eiffel 65 [...]
Straight from the Heart is a blast from the past – unfortunately youtube have disabled the embedding of the original mix which I recognized so readily, but here’s an extremely funky remix with an even better bassline – perfect boyracer material if you ask me. 1xtra played it this afternoon and it reminded me of [...]
Several hundred thousand boys have spent several hundred thousand hours rewinding this scene to check whether you actually see anything. Stupid, really, considering they could just go out and get a girlfriend, but this scandalous moment made Basic Instinct and Sharon Stone’s career (and confirmed my suspicion that Michael Douglas is creepy). Stone plays a [...]
This was a staple favourite of my local kiddy disco – the Royal Order of the Association of the Buffalo Club (or Buff Club for short!!!) Once a month, the local townies, scallies and neds would gather round to train up for their eventual admittance to Tall Trees, Cream or the Ministry of Sound. They [...]
Another 1993 classic, Mr Vain by Culture Beat followed in the trend of using occult videos in the style of the Prodigy. Zombies, crosses and vampires were de rigeur in the early 90′s. Watch this clip for some classic goth trance action! Sing along too: Lyrics to “Mr Vain” Call him Mr Raider call him [...]
Another great hit from 1993, “The Rhythm of the Night” was a hit for Corona. I don’t know how she danced around so much with those gigantic gold earrings but I love this track. Reminds me of fairgrounds and junior discos.
More black waistcoats without anything underneath from 1993 – Yay! Some great dancing in this. I love the bass line and the way it reminds me of proper clubbing. Is it just me or is Haddaway wearing coloured contact lenses in this video? Good irony, too: “Baby don’t hurt me” to the vampiress.
I love the black leather waistcoat the guy wears in this video. This was the true era of clubbing when people really went for it with the outfits. Nowadays it seems everyone wants to look like Girls Aloud and pick up a footballer rather than experience some truly banging music and prance around in PVC [...]
In line with their striking pedigree of hit adverts and soundtracks, Levi’s took TV by storm once more with a montage of twisty dancers throwing their limbs about and doing Exorcist-style tricks with their necks to the wonderful sound of Pepe Deluxe “Woman in Blue” otherwise known as “Before you Leave” – shown below the [...]
Levi’s continued their advertising history with a little yellow puppet that aimed to shift more of their jeans. The music and the furry little fiend took the world by storm – topping the charts and bringing out a popular imitation puppet. The response was so immense that Levi’s broke their one-campaign-only rule and brought Flat [...]
This was, very possibly, the album of the 1990s. Nirvana didn’t produce one better and, for me, only Pearl Jam’s 10 has stood the test of time anything like as well as Nevermind by Nirvana. It amazes me a little to think this album dropped onto the scene in the very beginning of last decade, [...]
The cartoon series that most of us will remember ran from 1983 until 1990 and was a US production. The popular 80′s cartoon “Alvin and the Chipmunks” – featured the Chipmunks as a band with Alvin as the popular, good-looking one, Simon as the intellectual and Theodore as the cute baby-faced brother. Dave was their [...]
Just look at Mr Bombastic with his bad boy shaven haircut and nineties waistcoat trying to a pull a girl in a pink velvet catsuit! What a charmer! Shaggy was also well known for one of the sexiest songs ever “Mr Bombastic” which was featured on a highly successful Levi’s advert. Lyrics for “Oh Carolina” [...]
