O-Zone shot to #2 in the UK charts with Dragostea Din Tei in 2004.

The cheesiest song and pop video ever. Sheer brilliance. I especially like the white jeans and tie dye top involved in this little ensemble. The tie dye took me back a few years. Does anyone know what inspired the braces?

As with most foreign-language songs, the British public failed miserably to repeat the words but nevertheless took O-Zone to their hearts.

Somehow my little cousin of six years old knew all the words -in Romanian. So for the sake of authenticity here are the original lyrics with the English translation:

The lyrics of Dragostea din teiMa-i-a-hi ma-i-a-hu
ma-i-a-ho ma-i-a-ha-ha
(repetat)

Alo, salut
sînt eu, un haiduc
Şi te rog, iubirea mea,
primeşte fericirea

Alo, alo
sînt eu, Picasso
ţi-am dat bip
şi sînt voinic
dar, să ştii, nu-ţi cer nimic

(refren)
Vrei să pleci
dar nu mă nu mă iei
nu mă nu mă iei
nu mă nu mă nu mă iei
Chipul tău şi dragostea din tei
mi-amintesc de ochii tăi
(repetat)

Te sun
să-ţi spun
ce simt acum
Alo, iubirea mea,
sînt eu, fericirea

Alo, alo
sînt iarăşi eu, Picasso
ţi-am dat bip
şi sînt voinic
dar, să ştii, nu-ţi cer nimic

(refren)

English translationMah-ee-ah-hee mah-ee-ah-hoo
mah-ee-ah-haw mah-ee-ah-huh-hah
(repeated)

Hallo, hi
it’s me, an outlaw
and, please, my love
receive (accept) the happiness

Hallo, hallo
it’s me, Picasso
I’ve given you a beep (I’ve beeped you)
and I am strong
but know I’m not asking you for anything

(chorus)
You want to leave
but you don’t take me (with you)
you don’t take me
you don’t take me
Your face and the linden love (the love in the linden tree)
remind me of your eyes
(repeated)

I’m ringing you (calling you)
to tell you
what I feel now
Hallo, my love
it’s me, the happiness

Hallo, hallo
it’s me again, Picasso
I’ve given you a beep (I’ve beeped you)
and I am strong
but know I’m not asking you for anything

(chorus
