The Toxic Crusaders was a short cartoon that I remember airing on UK TV during my childhood – I can just remember thinking “oh great, another cartoon” while the show started, then the theme tune featured the line “we’re hideously deformed” (or similar) and I was hooked.

The toxic crusaders tried to ride the tidal wave set by captain planet – that of what I like to refer to as the “eco toon” or environmentally friendly cartoon, but unfortunately, this didn’t work, as only one series of toxic crusaders was ever made. Luckily for me, and other my age, I got to see it, then.

Apparently, this show only aired five times in the USA, so if you guys remember it, you are super niche, like me.

The cartoon featured four toxic wastrels who went around fighting pollution. They were hideously deformed.

  1. I remember this series from when I was a kid. I recently found figure toys of the Crusaders, they say “Kellogg’s (c) 1991″ on the underside so they must have been a promotion as a free toy in a pack of cereal. I also have some Toxic Crusaders comics.
