If P Diddy thought he was pimp, he’s got nothing on Sir Jimmy Savile. The tracksuit wearing, gold crusted old timer was best known for his TV program “Jim’ll Fix It” where children had their dreams made true by the program makers. The daddy of all signet rings, aviators and cigars, Jim is also a bit of a local comic.

Rumour has it, that every year after the Otley Cycle Club dinner presentations, Sir Jim couldn’t avoid the small-town bling of taking several ladies home with him in his white limo. Definite fact is that I once worked at a restaurant in Otley where he and his friend came in for lunch, fully tracksuited up and looking like vagrants, when they spent a good hour making me feel very uncomfortable.

Many attendees of Prince Henry’s Grammar School will recall seeing Sir Jimmy cycling over Otley Bridge on a morning and some younger friends of mine claim to have had greasy breakfasts bought for them at Dunnies by the very same Sir Jimmy.

  1. [...] night on the news, I saw John Howard power walking around in what must surely rival Jimmy Saville’s best wardrobe manouvres for being the most hideous tracksuit ever. A classic shellsuit number [...]

  2. I remember Jimmy Saville visiting the childrens home where I worked in Ilkley. Got his autograph (still have it).
He arrived in his very posh white car. He was a somewhat eccentric man as I remember. Good memories…..
