I can’t believe we haven’t had The Raccoons featured in this Popular Nostalgia website, I mean it was Saturday morning gold when I were a wee laddie.

BBC One mornings, before your mums and dads got out of bed were made all the more enjoyable/tolerable by The Raccons while we waited for Going Live to come on with the celebs of the day and, of course, Phillip Schofield’s love/hate relationship with Gordon The Gopher!

But I’m not here to speak of Herr Schofield for once…

When Bert Raccoon wakes up, life in Evergreen Forest does indeed become much less serence and pleasent. In fact, he, and his best friend Cedric (Cyril Sneer the evil arch tycoon’s loveable son) get up to all sorts of hijinx and mischief.

I was never quite sure what animals Cyril and Cedric Sneer were quite supposed to be, though I hazard a guess at some rare breed of money making naked ant-eater.

Then we had the foolish three pigs who worked their little trotters off in the most thankless of jobs. The fact they were so hapless led to many a tale of woe for them.

In the end though, love would always prevail, and Bert Raccoon would learn a valuable lesson about being nice to his friends and not playing on railway lines etc.

I loved it. Just not much.
