Anyone remember bread in a stripy red, yellow, orange and black packet? Every time my mum wheeled the trolley past it in the supermarket I used to sing “I’m a Tiger” by Lulu.

  1. I don’t remember stripy bread, but top marks for the recollection :)

  2. does anyone remember a loaf of bread called Round Brown Bread? I think it was made by Merita but not sure.

  3. What year are you talking, deb?

  4. I’m not sure what year but I was born in 1960 and remember eating it as a little kid.

  5. Ok found the name it was Golden Circles from Merita now I would like to find a picture of the bread to paint for my retro kitchen redo.

  6. That seems to be different, but similarly interesting funky bread!

  7. The internet always has an answer… eventually. Would be great if you do get a picture to post it up here, because there’s not much out there on Golden Circles from Merita!

  8. When I was a little kid, born ’59, northwest Ohio, that was my favorite bread. Loved it toasted with butter, or with peanut butter on balogna. Yep, gross as it sounds, it was a favorite. What was fun about it was that you could peel off the crust, eat that first and then eat the non-crusted bread last.

The bread had a dark brown or maroon/brown wrapper. Some of the Round bread I found on the internet had a bright orange wrapper. I don’t know if that is a regional thing or not, but as bakeries were licensed to make the bread in different regions, maybe that has somethig to do with it.
