Mr Motivator WAS the 1990s.
He carried off three horrendous looks in one go:
- The Bum Bag – rarely was Mr Motivator ever without his precious bum bag.
- The Leotard – something which should never be seen on a male, out of athletics, he somehow managed to get away with it. In bright colours. Before breakfast.
- The Lunch Box – also sported by Linford Christie, viewers of GMTV got up close and personal with Mr Motivator’s, ahem, personals, on a daily basis.
Mr Motivator, in case you still haven’t remembered, was the daily fitness workout guy from GMTV (ITV, in the UK’s breakfast show).
He wore some quite horribly bright leotards, and was unnervingly cheerful and awake, even as he worked out at 7:15 am on a cloudy December morn – hence his Motivator tag.
Mr Motivator probably didn’t motivate many of us to get off our arses and out of bed, but at least he brought a smile to our tired faces before we trooped off to work, or school.
Where is he now? I wonder. In today’s fast food culture, with record high obesity figures, the clear societal change has been the loss of Mr Motivator. The country needs him now more than ever. Bring him back!

Oh, yes, but One Old Man perferred the Green Goddess and we even bought him a green exercise outfit (not quite a shellsuit, same era) and her exercise book for Christmas… it didn’t work, but he enjoyed it.

I currently work with Mr M and can assure everyone that he is still very much alive, still in great shape and as fit as ever ! He still gets involved in many public roles and has recently helped the MS Trust by working on a DVD for their charity. Mr M. lives in Jamaica.
I totally agree that Mr M was a major motivational influence on our lifestyles back in the 1990′s and this is what is missing today – we have no one to do this for us !
If you all want Mr Motivator back on TV then write to the MD of GMTV or indeed any other TV stations and tell them what you want to see !
